I first heard about this pattern from Grace on the Babbles Travels podcast. It was a free pattern released at Barcelona Knits festival in collaboration with Malabrigo. I really loved how it looked and was fascinated with the double layer construction.
The yarn I chose was a pink limited edition from Third Vault Yarns which was a reward for backing the Bipoc in Fiber campaign. I decided on the TedKnits dark blue/black with flecks of pink to go with it.
I have to say that this was a case of getting what you pay for with a free pattern. The instructions were next to impossible to understand, and if it wasn’t for this picture tutorial I would have given up completely. Even having now made it, I still do not understand the pattern instructions. I’m wondering whether to make a video tutorial as I don’t think there is one and I’ve seen a few people asking.
It was satisying to make once I had got my head around the construction, and I still think it’s a very cool effect. I always seem to have the same problem with cowls though – it’s slightly too long for a single loop and not long enough to twist and double over! Since this is made in the round though, you will only get as much length as the stitches you cast on.
